A significant challenge for humanity over the next few decades will be how to develop sustainable systems for the provision of basic needs; food, energy, health and safety. The engineering of these systems will require the extension and integration of the existing technological base with a variety of new technologies. For example, bio-based processes for energy and chemicals, and the rethinking of system material flows to make them more integrated and less wasteful whilst maintaining their economic viability. My research is focused
on the development of methodologies and tools to support decision making
for sustainable systems. Specifically biorefinery systems and
reverse production systems. In addition, I am interested in decision
making under uncertainty, a foundation methodology/technology
for many synthesis, design and operation problems. Each of these topics
is elaborated in more detail under their links. Current Projects Current Students Publications Patents Software
